Descrizione

Può raggiungere una lunghezza di 76 cm. Il corpo è di colore dal bruno rossastro al giallo rossastro, con la testa allungata, parzialmente tozza e appiattita lateralmente e sei bande verticali scure. Il suo muso ha una caratteristica forma conica. Hanno 24-25 raggi molli dorsali e 14-15 raggi molli anali. Questi pesci si nutrono di vermi, crostacei, insetti e materia vegetale.

Diffusione

Si trova in Africa, nel bacino del fiume Congo e nel lago Tanganica nella Repubblica Democratica del Congo, Repubblica Centrafricana, Zambia e Angola. Questi pesci d'acqua dolce si trovano in sciami e banchi in fiumi e laghi, in aree con clima tropicale (tipicamente 22-26 °C.
